Recently my family staged an intervention with me. They sat me down and said: You work too hard; you do too much; your health is suffering. Stop. Their solemn request to me: Please do not take on any further obligations than the ones you already have, and do not even look at offers to speak or write or do anything else until the end of 2019 at the very earliest. So I am heeding their request. I will not consider any invitations to speak or write or do anything else (aside from already-existing commitments) until 2020 — and by that I mean, not that I will accept invitations starting at that time, but that I will not even consider any invitations that come to me before that time. So if you’d like me to speak or write, please check back at the turn of 2020. Apologies for any inconvenience, but this is the right thing to do.
Addendum September 2019: I should note that there is no guarantee at all that I will be able to accept engagements once 2020 rolls around. But when your invitation, when it does come, just maybe, be for something other than a lecture?
